Abner Jay: Outsider Music

So, as everyone I'm sure knows I went to Atlanta a few weeks ago to visit and play a couple of shows. This trip happened to coincide with the annual Record Store Day. I was sad I didn't get to spend it at home at Good Records, but I made the best of it as it was. While I was in Criminal Records I saw this kick drum. I had never heard of Abner Jay until that moment. I did take this pic:
When I got home I started doing research on this one-man-band. He was in Silas Green's Minstrel show, which I know about because of the Hatch Show Print posters I have seen. Anyways, here is his wikipedia page and here is a link to his record. It's really cool shit. I hope you dig it too. Here is what his record cover looks like:

Here is where I stored my rig while in Georgia:

The Black Lipped Vivian Girls

Ok so .... like .... I don't buy into fucking hype. So, yeah I have the albums.... and they're fucking good. really good. and so I was skeptical ... really fucking skeptical. But they killed it yes killed it. By them I mean the Vivian Girls and The Black Lips oh yes.... I'm a huge fan now. for sure. here is some photographic evidence:

That Kickball Katy sure is cute .... sigh:

A Killer Storm

In Atlanta drove part of that storm two weeks that killed like 45 people .... it was rad. here is photographic evidence:

Home Sweet Hacienda

In Atlanta last week Nancy and I went to the Masquerade and caught the Haciendas open up for the Greenhornes. It was a killer show, but Hacienda really blew the Greenhornes away. Just sayin:

Hacienda from San Antonio:

The Masquerade was a really killer little intimate venue. I would highly recomend it:

We Are The Champions

I bought this record when they played at Brofest a month or so ago. I havent been able to stop listening to this album. I have only seen one article on the internet on this album. I think it may be the best record of the year in my shitty little humble opinion. It fuckin' kills it and signed by the band:

Number 164 of 500:

And on trippy clear vinyl:

Stone's Studio

Yesterday I got to visit Lincoln Stone's studio. He is a sculptor, painter and all around bad ass in Marietta, Ga. I wish I got some photographs of the building of his giant lathe and his welding studio outside, but alas I did not. However, here are some photos I took of his inside studio:
Actually this is a pic of the entrance to his property. I really like it:

Rev. Dennis's Faded Hwy. 61 Worship

Going East on I-20 from Dallas To Atlanta I always stop in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Hwy. 61 and the Mississippi river run parallel to each other. They also run right beside Vicksburg in the case of the mighty Mississippi river and right through Vicksburg as in the case of Hwy 61. Hwy 61 is where Robert Johnson sold his soul to the Devil and where Bob Dylan I'm sure did the same. This place has great meaning for me. Also, along Hwy. 61 just north of Vicksburg is the humble home of Rev Dennis and his wife Margaret. They were great people and they built this huge folk art church for passer-bys to worship with their own two hands. Since the last time I visited Margaret has died and from what I've heard Rev Dennis (90-something-years-old) is in an old folks home. So I was very worried about the state of their church but to my surprise it is still there and it doesn't seem as if any thieves has picked it clean. Here is the way I found it a few days ago...

It's sad to see his rocking chair sitting as if he just got out of it. In fact the whole damned property seemed as if they had left yesterday:
